One of the most common questions we get from international patients planning surgery in Bogota is whether they can actually hire a nurse to come to their hotel. The answer is yes, it is routine, and it is easier to arrange than most people expect.
How it works
Booking a nurse to your accommodation
You tell us your procedure, your surgery date and where you are staying. We send back a written care plan with a fixed price in US dollars. If you accept, a nurse is scheduled around your discharge time – for overnight and live-in bookings we aim to have her there before you are discharged, so there is no gap between leaving the clinic and having someone with you.
No hospital referral is needed and you do not need to be a Colombian resident. Most of our patients book from abroad, weeks before they fly.
The visit
What happens during a hotel nursing visit
- Vital signs check
- Wound assessment and dressing changes
- Surgical drain measurement and emptying
- Medication review and administration, including prescribed injections
- Mobility and positioning help
- Health documentation sent to your surgeon
A day visit runs one to two hours. Overnight care means a nurse present from 8pm to 8am – the hours when a problem developing unnoticed is most dangerous. Live-in care means one dedicated nurse on site around the clock.
Logistics
Hotels, apartments and recovery houses
All three work, and the care is identical. What differs is the practical setup. Hotels are convenient and have staff on site but tend to be noisy. Apartments give you a kitchen – genuinely useful if you are on a staged post-operative diet – but no reception. Dedicated recovery houses are purpose-built for this but book up.
We coordinate with reception or building security in Spanish so there is no confusion about a nurse arriving late or staying overnight. That conversation is much easier in Spanish, and it is one less thing for you to manage. We cover the whole city, including Zona Rosa and Usaquen and Cedritos.
Practical
What it costs, and booking ahead
Day visits are $60, an overnight registered nurse is $120 a night, and 24/7 live-in care is $180 a day, quoted in US dollars before you fly. See our published pricing for what each tier includes. There is no minimum for day visits or overnight care.
Book before you fly. Trying to vet a nursing service from a hotel bed on the evening of your discharge, medicated and sore, is the worst possible moment to be making that decision. Message us on WhatsApp at +57 322 216 8138 with your dates.
This article is general information about how recovery is usually managed. Your surgeon’s discharge instructions always take precedence over anything written here.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need permission from the hotel?
Generally no, but we coordinate with reception in Spanish as a matter of course so there are no surprises at the door.
Can the nurse collect me from the clinic?
Discharge coordination and clinic drop-off can be arranged as an add-on, quoted alongside your care plan.
What if I extend my stay?
We extend with you. Live-in care beyond seven days is charged at a discounted daily rate.
